2009 - 2010 Courses
Canoe SA offers a diverse range of courses for all skill and fitness levels. We offer Australian Canoeing Award Scheme courses including:
Basic Skills Courses - a 6 hour introduction for people who want to learn to paddle (Canoe, Kayak or SOT (sit on top))
Flat Water Skills - extension of skills, holders have demonstrated they can competently paddle a kayak or canoe as part of a group of peers on flat sheltered, undemanding water.
Canoe/Kayak Lifeguard Course - holders have been assessed as and are qualified to manage a paddling activity in enclosed situations where the group does not leave the immediate launch area
Sea Skills - demonstrated they can competently paddle a kayak as part of a group in moderate conditions
Sea Skills Instructor - holders have been assessed at and are qualified to operate in moderate sea conditions
Learn to Roll - roll your kayak/canoe from an upturned position with confidence.
We also run Water Confidence as well as Holiday Programs for Kids and more.

Eskimo Rolling Courses
Everyone who sits in a kayak for the first time feels insecure. The kayak not only feels unstable it may frequently threaten to flip over.
For the Inuit of Alaska & Greenland being able to roll after a capsize could be a matter of life or death. The same is true for sea kayakers who may be many kilometres from shore in rough seas when a capsize occurs
You know that you can easily exit the boat should it tip over, so you can feel more relaxed, but each "wet exit" fills the boat with water that must be emptied. Avoiding this chore is a great motivation for learning to roll!
Beginners rolling sessions are held on the gently sloping sand beach at West Lakes. Attending a rolling session will develop your knowledge and skills level.

Thursday, 4th February - 6.00pm to 8.00pm: Beginner session only
Thursday, 18 February - 6.00pm to 8.00pm: Beginner to intermediate
Tuesday, 23 February - 6.00pm to 8.00pm: Beginner to intermediate
Friday, 26 February - 6.00pm to 8.00pm: Beginner to intermediate

Australian Canoeing Awards Scheme
Canoe South Australia is charged with administration of the Australian Canoeing Award Scheme in South Australia. The Scheme is the only nationally recognised set of canoeing qualifications. These two courses are usually run over the summer season although group courses can be arranged anytime if you contact Canoe SA.

These courses are based at or adjacent to the Canoe South Australia facilities in the northern basin of West Lakes, and are conducted by Australian Canoeing qualified Instructors. The normal Instructor:student ratio is 1:6, but the ratio may vary according to numbers.

Bookings
Bookings may only be made on the relevant forms or by phoning Canoe SA, accompanied by payment. Closing date for applications is 5 working days before the course.
Cancellation Policy
Canoe South Australia reserves the right to cancel a course at any stage. A full refund will apply to all courses cancelled by Canoe SA. Course participants will have the option of transferring to another course. For cancellation notice received from a participant:
- 10 days prior to the course: full refund less $5 administration fee
- 5 -10 days prior to the course: fifty percent refund of course fee.
No refunds or transfers will be given for cancellations made by participants less than five days before the course.
